Lock Password Next protects your browser with a password: instant lock via hotkey, configurable failed-attempt actions, and local settings with no data sent to a server.

Features

Password-protect the browser session

Lock Chrome with a password from the popup, on startup, or instantly via hotkey. A full-page overlay blocks tab content until you unlock.

PBKDF2 password hashing

The password is stored as a PBKDF2-SHA-256 hash via the Web Crypto API — never in plain text. Verification happens locally on your device.

Hotkey lock

Press Ctrl+Shift+L (⌘+Shift+L on Mac) to lock every tab at once when you step away from the desk.

Auto-lock and startup lock

Optionally lock when the browser starts, or after N minutes unlocked. Tune the timing in options to match how you work.

Failed-attempt actions

Limit unlock tries and choose what happens next: open Incognito or clear browsing history. An optional hint can help you recover without weakening the hash.

Local settings and themes

Preferences stay in chrome.storage.local. Switch light, dark, or system theme for the lock UI and options pages.
